Embracing Change in Every Season
It’s that time again. Time for another season to make its exit, and a new one to make its entrance. I have always loved the physical feeling of the seasons changing because it feels as though I am literally walking into another dimension of time. And let's be honest... there are times that we need to feel a literal, forward move in order to be able to see things from a new perspective. New seasons are our chance to leave behind what was and embrace what will soon be. But, have you ever noticed how some seasons seem to be so much longer than others? As if it tauntingly lingers, denying you of seeing any glimpse of change on the horizon.
I have heard the saying “There’s so much waiting for you on the other side of this.” But what exactly is “this” and why do we have to wait for the other side? Perhaps “this” represents the loss of a job, a temporary ailment or decline in health, a setback in finances, a horrible relationship decision that resulted in a breakup, broken heart, or divorce. If that is the case, then yes, there is more waiting for you on the other side of those things: a new job, the opportunity to build a better financial future, improvement for your health, or a new love after your heart heals that may lead to marriage.
But, what about when your “this” is something permanent? Something that cannot be changed, but must be accepted as a new reality? What if your “this” is the death of a close loved one? When there have been months, oftentimes years, of memories, laughter, experiences, bonding, connecting, and love that is shared and exchanged? What if your “this” is a medical diagnosis that has no cure? Where does one find the other side of that?
At some point in our existence, we must all encounter such a moment. A moment where reaching what is on the other side seems impossible because what we are facing on this side is all we can see. There is no getting over it. There is no replacement for what was lost or regaining what was taken. These are the moments that shake our world. The truth is: we don’t need to wait to get to the other side to experience the “more” God intends for us to have.
Here is another truth: God is still here with us in this current season. As we are healing and learning to navigate through any season in which we find ourselves, we can allow the Father to comfort us in His loving embrace and revive our hearts. Though the physical seasons around us continue to change, and we may feel stuck in the fogginess of this current side, God still desires to give us great things right here, right now. His promises are not limited to seasons – they pursue us in every season we exit and enter. Through every season, He is with us, and that is a truth which will never change.
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.” - Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NLT)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” - Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)
“Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” - Psalms 119:50 (NLT)
Thank You for being consistent in a world that is always changing and evolving. I admit that I cannot always see my way clearly in certain seasons of my life, but I am comforted in knowing that You are holding me in Your loving arms. Help me to embrace the changes that come in each new season, even when I face moments that change my world permanently. Grant me the peace of knowing that You are with me no matter what my current season may be. In Jesus’ Name... Amen.
